Four People Shot at Howe Park – Unauthorized Event Erupts in Gunfire
Late Saturday evening, a large unauthorized party of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in the Arden-Arcade section of Sacramento turned violent when upwards of 20 gunshots were fired as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were in the midst of clearing the crowd.
What Happened
Shortly after 6:30 PM, the SCSO was alerted concerning subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at the park. Another caller reported a potential fight and people running from the area.
An airship was sent to the area and conducted an aerial search but failed to identify any physical confrontation.
Despite this, an estimated several hundred attendees had gathered at the park for what law enforcement classified as an unauthorized event. Deputies set up around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave via loudspeaker announcements.
As officers worked to clear the park, upwards of 20 gunshots filled the night air — sending hundreds of people running in all directions.
Victims of the Shooting
Four gunshot victims — a female and three male victims, all believed to be in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one with moderate injuries, and Sacramento County Sheriff shooting investigation one was treated for minor injuries. Scene Details
Gunfire originated from the Cottage Way side side of the park in the vicinity of the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. The Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Additional spent casings were recovered from Cottage Way, with bullet holes found in the iron fence around the nearby Home Depot — pointing to a shooter firing south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot parking lot. CSI units and detectives processed the scene overnight.
Arrests and Detentions
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was revealed that a click here related suspect vehicle — described as a Kia vehicle — was contacted in Solano County with four individuals detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect the suspects and return them to here Sacramento County for questioning. Video analysis confirmed two shooters were involved.
